Getting Gubbed By Bookies

Getting Gubbed By Bookies

In Matched Betting, getting “Gubbed” can refer to any limitation placed upon your account which in some way restricts you from taking part in promotions or gambling activities. Being gubbed is one of the biggest risks of Matched Betting and arguably unavoidable with some of the bookies. There are a few different types of gubbing that may happen:

Sports Promotion Restricted

This is the most common form of gubbing. You will receive an email stating that you are no longer eligible for any future sports promotions or special prices. This will mean the account can no longer earn free bets or qualify for price promotions such as Best Odds Guaranteed.

Bookies which favour this kind of restriction include:

  • RaceBets
  • Betfair
  • Ladbrokes
  • Betway
  • Stan James
  • 138.com
  • BetVictor
  • Paddy Power
  • Betfred

If you receive this kind of restriction you are still able to take advantage of their casino and bingo offers making the account worthwhile even after being gubbed.

All Promotion Restricted

If a bookie also offers a casino section, they may restrict you from ALL promotions across their site. This is rarer than just a Sports Promotion Restriction and means you will not be eligible to take part in any special offers on the site.

Bookies which favour this kind of restriction include:

  • Boyle Sports
  • 10Bet
  • Sky Bet
  • Coral

An account restricted in this way is pretty much only good for placing Arbs on.

Sports Stake Limited

Most bookies will sports take limit you whilst also doing one of the above restrictions. However some bookies use a sports stake limit separately so you are still ‘eligible’ for their special offers but will be unable to place more than a few pence worth of bets at a time.. effectively making any offers useless to you.

Bookies which favour this kind of restriction include:

  • BetBright
  • Bet 365

Accounts restricted in this way can occasionally still be used for placing very low odds arbs. Also in the case of Bet 365, you will still be eligible to receive their free spins in the casino section every now and then.

Which Bookies Gub The Most?

No all gambling sites are made equal. Some will restrict you simply for looking in their direction while others couldn’t care less what you’re up to. I’ve never heard of anyone getting gubbed by the exchanges (as they just take a % of all bets placed for commission).

A quick list of some of the main bookies based on how quick they are to gub you based on my experiences.

QUICKEST TO GUB

RaceBets
Betfair Sportsbook
Boyle Sports
Ladbrokes
BetBright
Betway
Stan James
10bet
138.com
BetVictor
Paddy Power
Sky Bet
Bet365
Coral
Bet Safe
Net Bet
Betfred
Betstars
Bwin
188Bet
Sporting Bet
Sun Bets
Betdaq
Betfair Exchange
Smarkets

Couldn’t Care Less

For this reason I’d recommend everyone avoid even signing up for Racebets. They will restrict you before you’ve even had a chance to place bets for their welcome offer. Equally you’ll only manage about 2 horse racing bets before Betfair gub you from their sports section. The likes of 188 and SportingBet however have been perfectly happy for me to hit all of their sports offers for over a year now without so much as blinking.

  1. I’m just starting out on my Matched Betting journey but have found so fat that 888Sport and literally throwing free bet offers at me! Unfortunately, I won a few outsiders rather than winning on the exchanges and they haven’t sent me one since. How sad.

  2. Racebets are a joke, I don’t even know how they are still in business as they won’t even take a bet. You need to be in it to win it Racebets, you mugs!!! 🙂

My experience with Betfair sports is different to yours, I’ve done loads of Arbs and still not looking to be banned yet. Not done many of their reload offers (Don’t even know if they do any to be honest?)

    1. My friend has managed to maintain a Betfair Sportsbook account for awhile now. She only uses it for First goalscorer promotions and hasn’t touched the horses.
